Academic profile

About me

Between 1991 and 1996 I attended the Faculty of Geography and Geology at "Al. I. Cuza" University of Iași, specializing in Geography, graduating as valedictorian with a Bachelor's degree in Geography. My thesis was titled "The northern hilly rim of the Moldavian Plain. A physical-geographical study" and was supervised by Prof. dr. Ioan Bojoi.

Between 1996 and 2002 I pursued doctoral studies at the same university. The doctoral cycle concluded with the defense of my PhD thesis "The Moldavian Plain. A climatic study". My supervisor was Prof. dr. Elena Erhan.

From 2002 to 2014 I was Lecturer at the Department of Geography, Faculty of History and Geography, "Stefan cel Mare" University of Suceava, and since 2014 Associate Professor. Since 2017 I hold the habilitation in Geography, with PhD supervision rights. Since September 2024 I serve as Director of the Centre for Research in Applied Geography (GeA).

My main area of expertise covers meteorology and climatology, with applications in climate modelling, topoclimatology, microclimatology, air pollution, air quality, climate trends, climate and associated risks, applied climatology (urban climatology, agricultural climatology, balneoclimatology and health tourism, etc.).

Throughout my career, up to 2025, I have contributed to over 90 scientific publications, five books and two book chapters. I currently supervise 9 PhD students, one of whom is in post-stage. Four former PhD students have completed their theses. My research focuses primarily on the territory between the Carpathians and the Dniester, the Moldova region, north-eastern Romania.

Recent research includes studies on air quality in the Moldova region, urban warming, climate change, human biometeorology, balneoclimatic potential, urban noise, and atmospheric aeroionization.
